Women and Leadership Project SCVO have secured funding from the
European Structural Funds under priority 2 and the
Equalities and Human Rights Commission for an innovative pilot project targeting both women's personal skills development and the implementation of "equalities mainstreaming" within third sector organisations.
The increasing importance of women in the labour market is well recognised - as are the impediments to economic growth caused by female under-representation and discriminatory practices in senior level and professional posts. Direct intervention and support at both a personal level and an organisational level can help to support those organisations seeking to "mainstream" equalities.
The project aims to support the "mainstreaming" of equalities through an organisational development programme, tailored organisational support, a Women and Leadership personal development programme, additional mentoring support, a series of networking events, conferences, a web network and an e-newsletter.
By working with individuals and organisations simultaneously we will support those women facing multiple barriers and enhance the competitiveness, effectiveness, efficiency and performance of third sector organisations.
We are currently developing this innovative positive action pilot, which will focus on female individuals who are under-represented in the workplace ie. BME women, recent women returners to the labour market and disabled women.
This project is a partnership intervention between
Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations,
Engender and
PATH Scotland.
This project is due to commence in October 2008.
