Gender
According to SCVO research figures from 2001, 68 percent of paid staff in the voluntary sector are female, as are 60 percent of volunteers. The implementation of policies and work practices concerning gender equality should therefore be of paramount concern to the sector as a whole.

SCVO is involved in work specifically focused on the area of gender equality. Key aims and activities of the equalities development team in this area include:
  • Raising awareness of the benefits of removing gender constraints and adopting family friendly policies within organisations, and increasing the number of organisations implementing such policies
  • Networking and building relationships with various women’s organisations and bodies, and involvement in research into women’s issues through the Women’s Issues Research Advisory Group (WIRAG)
  • Promotion of all of the above strands of work through the organisation of various events including equality forums, training events and conferences
