If you are a voluntary organisation (with or without charitable status) and you are looking for management committee members, trustees, directors or whatever they are called in your organisation this page explains how you can find people who are interested in becoming them.
It may sound a bit obvious but word-of-mouth and asking other organisations how they found their trustees can be two very effective ways to find willing volunteers to be trustees. However, there are two major, more formal ways to find trustees in Scotland.
1) Advertise for free on the Volunteer Scotland database operated by Volunteer Development Scotland (VDS).
All over Scotland there are Volunteer Centres that collect local information about volunteering opportunities in their area, including trustee work (or as the VDS database more correctly refers to it ‘committee work’). They feed their information into a one-stop-shop central database. VDS have kindly enabled SCVO to reproduce a list of these opportunties here (link to 'Trustee Opportunities' page) If you are interested in the wider work of VDS visit their website. You can go straight to the database's website from here. To get your advertisement onto the database you must go through your local Volunteer Centre.
2) Advertise on the Good Moves website and in Third Force News (TFN)
Good Moves is a website for charity and voluntary sector recruitment in Scotland and Wales. TFN is Scotland’s weekly voluntary sector newspaper and has a recruitment section. There are packages available that allow you to advertise in both these places and in the Big Issue Scotland! To check out the details and rates call Good Moves 0141 418 7035.
But wait: are you sure you need a trustee? Maybe you just need some short term advice from a person with specialist knowledge? As part of a wide range of activities Scottish Business in the Community makes key connections between the private, public and not-for-profit / voluntary sectors, to channel business resources into communities; providing a simplified means for companies to get their staff involved in local community projects.
