Spotlights
Experiences of Working Life for Highland Pupils
Highland Council is supporting young people to gain experience of the working world through two key initiatives: Skills for Work and Work Experience. For both these initiatives, there is a need for schools and young people to engage with local employers. Highland Council would very much welcome working with voluntary organisations in this way, so that young people can become aware of, and begin to experience, jobs in this sector.
Moray Firth Media Trust
Making the Media Work for You’ Training Workshops Do you have something to say to the public through the media? If you work for a charity, community group, community council or small business, knowing more about the media could help you get your message to a bigger audience.
New National Occupational Standards Directory
A new database is now available with information on National Occupational Standards (NOS) which are helpful guides to good practice in any job. Employers, managers and individuals can look up NOS for all sorts of roles. For example they can be used in selection, recruitment, supervision, appraisal etc. Individuals can also use them as a check on what they want to learn etc. The link above gives information on the database and also useful guide to how to use NOS.
The HNC Working with Communities
The HNC Working with Communities and the access course: Introduction to Community Learning and Development are both available on-line with tutor support and were designed to address Community Learning and Development within the Community Planning framework, along with changes in community education. The HNC is delivered on a part-time basis (two years) with the completion of seven core and one optional modules necessary to complete the course. The aim is to encourage people from the voluntary sector to undertake one or two modules this September (induction in late August). The modules can also be offered as Continuing Professional Development. Access to the HNC is as open as possible with no set prerequisites but the access course can assist as an introduction to Community Learning and Development to build skills and confidence.

Using the Learning in Regeneration Skills Pack in the Community Learning and Development Sector
The Scottish Centre for Regeneration (SCR) in conjunction with Peoplematters will be holding a must attend FREE workshop in Inverness on 25th March. Windmills Resource for Personal Development
Windmills is a great programme for career and life management in the face of ongoing changes in our environment. The interactive website has exercises that guide you toward identifying the skills and strengths you already have and building on them to achieve a balance between working, learning, playing and giving. This is a good resource also for organisations who will benefit from employees that have taken control of their development and are able to fully contribute to the organisation as part of their overall life and career plan.
