Martin Sime, Chief Executive of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations said:
“The Chancellor’s pledge not to cut funding to frontline public services now is all very well, but it simply doesn’t match with the reality on the ground for charities in Scotland. Already, many local authorities are cutting back severely on their funding to charities and voluntary organisations which are facing an incredibly tough time at the moment.
“However, whilst we’re disappointed by this apparent disconnect, it is very encouraging to see the UK Government putting an extra £300 million into the Future Jobs Fund.
“The Scottish Voluntary Sector Consortium, led by SCVO, now includes over 300 organisations from across Scotland. It has already helped nearly 700 young and long-term unemployed people into socially useful work through the Future Jobs Fund and we look forward to being able to help even more people into work over the coming months.”
