Third Sector Research Conference 2009 - Call for Papers

Call for Papers

Third Sector Research Conference

Date: 26 October 2009

Venue: Old College, University of Edinburgh

We invite you to present a paper at Scotland’s forthcoming Third Sector Research Conference, co-hosted by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and the Centre for Public Services Research (CPSR) at the University of Edinburgh Business School.

The conference aims to consolidate and advance the evidence base for Scotland’s Third Sector by connecting researchers with policy makers and practitioners, and to help build an informed community of practice throughout Scotland. At a time of economic uncertainty and policy change, this conference therefore presents a unique opportunity to share new or existing research that is of interest and relevance to the Scottish Third Sector and the challenges it faces.

Whether you are working within academic, practice or policy settings, and whether you are an existing or new researcher, we cordially invite you to send us an abstract of no more than 500 words outlining the paper you would like to present. The closing date for all abstract submissions is 3 August 2009. Authors will be notified of the outcome of their submissions by 31 August 2009.

Proposals

While we welcome research papers on all areas of interest to Scotland’s Third Sector, we would especially welcome individual papers which address those topics that were explored in the recent SCVO/ESRC public policy seminars:

  • Localism (the role of the Third Sector in Single Outcome Agreements, assessing local philanthropy, community action, volunteering)
  • Recession (the Third Sector’s relationship to government, trends in charitable giving, a sustainable workforce?)
  • Innovation (innovation in service delivery, an enterprising Third Sector, can the sector offer an alternative vision of progress for society?)

An anthology of the best papers will also be published as part of the Scottish Public Management Network (SPMN) Working Papers series.

Please forward your abstract to Ian Lees at ian.lees@scvo.org.uk
