SCVO has been involved in delivering employment initiatives since April1998 when we were contracted by Jobcentre Plus to deliver the Voluntary Sector Option of New Deal for Young People in Tayside which was the Pathfinder area for the New Deal. Since then we have secured contracts to deliver New Deal programmes in 14 other areas of Scotland.
We also deliver programmes to enhance the employability of individuals with barriers to entering and progressing in the labour market, such as ex-offenders, people with alcohol or drug issues, homelessness, health and disability issues and young people aged 16 -18.
These programmes are delivered on behalf of Jobcentre Plus, Careers Scotland and
Highlands and Island Enterprise. Our programmes are tailored to meet the needs of the individual within the context of local labour markets and the needs of local employers and are delivered through a network of 10 local offices across
Scotland by a team of dedicated staff. Key delivery partners in these programmes are the 900+ voluntary organisations across
Scotland who offer work experience, training or specialist support to overcome barriers.
