AYSLUM seekers, refugees and black and minority ethnic people in Edinburgh and the Lothians are to be offered access to IT training and a personal development programme.
Nisus Scotland (formerly the Edinburgh Women’s Training Centre) has secured funding from the Community Fund and the European Social Fund to deliver the project, entitled Skilltech.
Skilltech, which will be delivered in partnership with Skillnet Edinburgh, will provide a series of dedicated 12-week courses providing certified computer qualifications, job search and communication skills and English language support.
In addition, the project will offer short non-certified computer courses made available through the Skilltech Summer School.
A spokesperson for Nissus Scotland said: “Pilot courses offered SQA qualifications in computer skills and were made available to BME individuals living in Edinburgh in 2002 and 2003. The popularity of these courses and increased demand from this client group for more computer training resulted in the set up of the Skilltech project.”
Nisus Scotland are keen to make contact with BME individuals .
considering an application to the programme and would also like to connect with BME groups interested in referring eligible trainees.
