SCVO is delighted to have entered into a partnership with West Lothian College. This development will increase the range of accredited learning opportunities available to the sector through the Short Course Programme.

SVQs Health & Social Care
SVQ’s are delivered entirely in the workplace. Coursework and evidence can be submitted via e-portfolio or through the traditional paper portfolio method. Meetings take place between student and assessor at the workplace every 3-4 weeks and the assessor is contactable via email or mobile phone for ongoing support.

There are no specific start dates. Course start dates are agreed between the assessor and the organisation. The following SVQs in Health and Social Care are offered:

Level 2 (Residential Care)

  • Course Fee: £500
  • (minimum number for this course: 4 people)

Level 2 (Domiciliary Care)

  • Course Fee: £600

Level 3

  • Course Fee: £700

Level 4

Leadership & Management in Care Services – SVQ Level 4

The Level 4 Leadership and Management for Care Services Award, enables managers and senior practitioners to gain a competency-based qualification, which meets national standards for best practice within the area of care management. It is also accepted for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). This award includes a broad range of management skills together with a mix of advanced practitioner work functions and first line management responsibilities. This course can also allow access to the final year of the BA in Business Enterprise at Napier University.

Management – SVQ Level 4

This qualification is based on the standards developed by the Management Standards Centre in conjunction with National Occupational Standards (NOS). It is suitable for individuals working in a management role that encompasses a wide range of work activities with a high degree of personal responsibility and autonomy.

The qualification is designed to enhance the career potential and promotional prospects of candidates. Employer involvement and commitment allows candidates the opportunity to deliver improvements to business processes and procedures. Successful candidates can access the final year of the BA in Business and Enterprise at Napier University.

ECDL

The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is an internationally recognized qualification which enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills.

  • Course Fee: £220 (inc. Registration with the British Computer Society, Log Book, Learning Materials, 7 tests and up to 120 hours of supported study).

COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills

The Certificate in counseling skills comprises 4 modules of COSCA 1, 2, 3 and 4 each lasting 12 weeks. The course is intended for a wide variety of people who wish to know more about Counselling skills and approaches and their application either within the workplace or for personal development of self-awareness and personal growth in the context of Counselling Skills Training.

  • COSCA Level 1 (£140 + £35 for materials)
  • COSCA Level 2 (£140 + £35 for materials)
  • COSCA Level 3 (£140 + £35 for materials)
  • COSCA Level 4 (£140 + £35 for materials)
  • These COSCA courses will be delivered in the evenings at West Lothian College, with a range of start dates over the year.

CMI Diploma

This course is for the hands-on manager whose role is to manage resources in order to achieve specific results and who wishes to progress their career to a senior level.

Successful students will be eligible for direct entry to the final year of the part time Business and Enterprise Degree at Napier University.

Entry to this course is through interview.
