Money

Money is, of course, of crucial importance to running a hall. Whether you have a swanky new community building or an old tin hut you're going to need money to pay for lighting and heating, maintenance and insurance. Providing for the growing needs of rural communities in the 21st Century may mean seeking new sources of funding.

Raising Money is a serious business. There is information about what kind of funding is out there and who is providing it (both well known and less well known). Trading is covered, an area where more voluntary organisations may seek involvement as sustainability becomes a watchword, and links to guidance on good practice in fundraising. These pages will provide a basic grounding in this area, from which voluntary organisations can take both direction and heart: there are funds out there and with perseverance they really can be secured.

Good intentions were perhaps once enough to inspire trust in those in receipt of money based on the promise that they would use it to 'do good'. These days such a notion is fanciful. Being in receipt of money carries an awful lot of responsibility and there is an absolute sackful of regulation surrounding it, all designed to head off fraud and enable proof to be established of just how the money is being used to 'do good'.

Managing Money in the voluntary sector is an area complicated enough to have even the most brilliant accountant reaching for the paracetamol but SCVO has attempted to take some of the pain out of this perennial headache. These pages strive to explain the processes of managing money in language that the lay person can understand and enable voluntary organisations to get a handle on how to do it - and when to get help - without wasting resources better spent on delivering their core business.

So if you thought the 'SORP' was a monster from Doctor Who prepare to be enlightened and read on!
